APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH | ORANGE
Codie Vasquez, Executive Director of CASA Sabine Neches Region, holds a proclamation signed by Mayor Larry Spears declaring April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention month in the city of Orange.
Although the month of April is Child Abuse Awareness month, the proclamation was adopted by the Orange City Council at Tuesday’s meeting.  CASA is a national organization, and stands for “Court-Appointed Special Advocate”.
Mrs. Vasquez is a passionate advocate for CASA, which provides trained volunteers to accompany and support children going through the court system.
“There were 1,046 child abuse cases – 281 confirmed – and 103 children removed from their home just in Orange County in 2020,” she said. “We want to provide a CASA for every child.”
“If you suspect abuse report it. You don’t have to investigate…there are people who will do that for you.”

CASA is always in need of volunteers.  Training is provided.  Visit https://www.casasnr.org/ to sign up.
